Hi there!

I'm Bob. Welcome to my website! This place is meant to be my personal (safe) space on the world wide webs and a playground where i try fun things. Preferrably nothing too serious.

If you find something broken, sorry about that. This place is under construction.

Thank you so much for visiting!

I created RSS feed for these blog posts!

I didn't want to use some RSS creator, so I went with the route of creating my own script for the RSS generation. The workflow was that I took a working RSS feed from other sites and by trial and error I edited the script until the output had exactly the structure as the example file.

In the end I did the script in JS/Node. As most of the time I'm working in browser, I guessed that Node will have the DOMParser object which I'm familiar with, but turns out its browser specific stuff, so I ended up using Node's basic regexp mathing in the script.

The script is ran automatically by a precommit hook everytime I do a new commit, and the hosting then deploys the new version automatically, so in the end it starts to feel like a nifty little devops pipeline!

Raspberry Pi Jellyfin homeserver is working nicely and more reliably now. I haven't had a crash that (at least one that I would need to manually fix) for the last month, so that is a real step up from previous state!

Other than that I don't have much else to write about. Mainly because last weeks I'm trying to get together my life irl. It's going alright so hopefully soon I will have energy again to learn or try something web or technology related!

Still healthy! Yay.

Had some problems with the Raspberry Pi Jellyfin homeserver. Either the Raspberry Pi went of the network completely, or Jellyfin was functioning, but couldn't read from the connected HDD. Yesterday I spent some time creating more guardrails for when something goes wrong.

I finally have some time to check IRC from time to time now. I'm more and more getting used to the atmosphere and type of conversations there, although not yet engaging in much of them.

For this page, I started to work on creating RSS feed from these blog posts. I didn't want to use RSS creator, but also didn't want to manually create new items everytime the blog updates, so I'm trying to create a script that will on every blog update generate updated RSS.

Finally healthy for the last weeks!

Raspberry Pi is still running as a media server, I am getting used to all the networking side, sshing, cloudflare tunneling, and the fact that a computer is running non-stop at my home. Its irrational given the Pi's consumption, but I still feel quite unecological doing that. I also spent quite a bit of time tiding up the music library. It feels good, just like after tiding the rooms.

I also checked that it still reliably gathers the IRC history for me. But I had little time to read the conversations in reality in the last weeks due to all the health and also some intesive work stuff.

I finally feel the last two days energy and motivation to do something other than trying to survive all the irl stuff! Hopefully I'll get to some changes around here. I realised that all the personal websites I enjoy the most have quite elaborate and original visuals, so I know I will have to do work in that regard here.

In the last few weeks, I had to deal with annoying IRL problems of being sick on and off so I didn't have energy to work on my site. But it looks its getting better the last few days.

I got an used Raspberry Pi 4, which I setup as a media server (using Jellyfin) and also an IRC bouncer (using soju). So now I'm getting reliable IRC history from the channels I'm in. Sadly I wasn't able to read any of it due to the reasons mentioned above.

Last few days, i got into IRC! Its been feeling very exotic for me. Met lot of interesting people there! Still learning all the specifics of IRC, I also tried few clients - best looking was Senpai, but now i'm using WeeChat and was pretty succesful in setting it up, how I want it.

Made this website! Didn't even have an online nick, and for the first time in about 15 years, i thought it would be fun if i just boringly didn't use my real name as a username/nickname.

Inspiration to have this page came from the slow internet movement, and also the idea that i can start small and build gradually. So this is the small start!
